    Coin collection questions

I inherited a coin collection last week that is pretty sizeable. I know nothing about them, so is there any place/person you can recommend to get them appraised and sold?

    Thanks!

There is a place in Bellaire across from Jaxs grill on S Rice I used when my mom died.

    Might verify on Ebay

I used Houston Numismatic Exchange on my grandfather's coin collection. http://www.hnex.com/ They did charge an appraisal fee since I had to get it done for probate and to pay his debts, and then sold it later. But if they buy it right then, they don't charge the fee. Their guys worked on his stuff for about 2-3 hours to get me the values.

There is also a place on Katy Freeway that advertises on AM 740 - http://www.buyuscoins.com/ They advertise free appraisals so you know what it is worth without you having to sell it right then.

One thing on a lot of coins, unless they are graded or mint uncirculated collector coins, they will most likely be only worth the gold or silver value.

Well, that's the problem. There are probably a couple thousand coins, and we are still finding boxes here and there. This is gonna be something that is going to have to be sold as a lot because I nor my brother/cousins have time or knowledge to sort through all of it and then piece it out in several sales. We are likely leaving a good chunk of money on the table, but there isn't much else I can do. We have an appointment Saturday morning to take them somewhere for an appraisal. I may get a second appraisal as well for comparison's sake and take the best offer.

I'd venture to guess most of the coins aren't too valuable and get sold for melt value and then the rest will be bought for whatever they're willing to offer on them.

If it were a hundred or two coins, it would be a different story.
